Photoediting: Photoshop is $649, GIMP is $0 you decide

The open source community The GIMP have been working hard to develop a polished, user-friendly, and freely distributed image editor. Gimp's interface is divided into seperate windows so you can move them around to your ultimate desire.  As with any complex software there is a learning curve but it has a good community support and is well worth the time.

Gimp remains has one of the most powerful image editors around.  The lastest version pushs this software even further into the top tier and is very comparable to photoshop.  You will find it has most of the same features and is organized rather nicely.

The application provides professional tools that can stand against the big boys without the hefty price tag. Even the installation process has gotten simpler over the years. Extremely powerful and easy to work with, GIMP is ideal for both amateur and pro photographers, Web designers, or anyone who wants to create and edit professional-quality digital images on a budget.

New government Spying "trust us, we're the government"

Donald Kerr says its time for people to change there views on privacy.  No longer should we worry about collecting specific information but the safegaurds on that collected information.  These comments come from the fact that Congress is evaluating the foreign surveillance intellegence act.

The biggest issue in the new legislation is the debate on whether to shield telecommunications companies from civil lawsuits for allegedly giving the government access to people's private e-mails and phone calls without a court order between 2001 and 2007.

Sony's thoughts on the format war

sony ceo comments on format warsSony CEO Howard Stringer gives some interesting comments about the ongoing format wars between sony blue ray and toshiba created HD-DVD.  It says that the wars are at a stalemat right now.  This comment is interesting seeing how many company have jumped ship from blue ray to HD-DVD and we now see HD-DVD players on sale at walmart for less then $100.  Stringer has the heavy job of repositioning Sony back to the top of the pack.  He also tryes to downplay the format war commenting “We were trying to win on the merits, which we were doing for a while, until Paramount changed sides, It doesn't mean as much as all that.”  This doesn't sound like a war that is at a stalemate it sounds like someone is loosing support.  Stringer states that he wishes he could go back in time to unite the 2 formats before going to launch.  Well here is to wishing, Toshiba when to the DVD consortium and got approved as the HD, DVD successor and Sony formed the blue-ray consortium.  Sounds like it didn't have much support from the start.

Bluetooth in Cars

bluetooth cell phone use in carsThe new rage has been the bluetooth option for new cars.  Most states are implementing a ban on cell use inside cars and this solves that problem.  Bluetooth headsets are nice but i'm always loosing mine that why i got a bluetooth car kit.  I bought one and installed in myself but nowadays it comes as a factory option.  I'd imagine that almost every car in the near future will have this handy option.  Most people are savvy enough to understand how link there phone with the car bluetooth so its just a great idea.

The first GSM phone 15 years ago

15 years ago gms smart phoneOh how we forget when phones didn't simply stay on forever, you could watch video, write email, and see pictures of the next celebrity downfall in real time. The first GSM mass produced phone came out 15 years ago on November10, 1992. I remember the days of the almost indestructable nokia phones, even though they didn't have any features they were great phones. This wasn't the first gsm phone, that was an unnamed nokia phone made for finlands radiolinja netowrk in 91.

Remember the start of cell phones with this interesting article
